CHECKLIST:   What to Bring:

IN-PERSON ROBOT GAME:

  • Bring your robot!
  • Bring a laptop computer with your programs on it. We recommend battery backup. Also, we recommend having a backup of your programs on a thumb drive, CD or other media in case the unthinkable happens.
  • Bring a power strip and an extension cord (at least 8 ft) for supplying power to your computer at the pit area table. Power will be available, but it may not be directly at your team’s pit table.
  • Bring extra LEGO pieces  and/or your Mindstorms /SPIKE Prime kit for making changes or repairs to your robot.
  • Bring a protective box to transport your robot for both the design judging and robot performance rounds.   Robots don’t bounce like Tiggers, they break.
  • Bring fresh batteries or your charger
  • Please WEAR SOFT SOLED, NON-MARKING SHOES TO PROTECT GYM FLOORS!

IN-PERSON JUDGING:

  • Bring your robot!
  • Bring all of your project presentation materials
  • Bring something to protect your project presentation materials, robot and other items from the weather in case of rain/foul weather.
  • Bring a protective box to transport your robot for both the design judging and robot performance rounds.   Robots don’t bounce like Tiggers, they break.

GENERAL ITEMS:

  • Bring latest version of FIRST Team Roster  (coach needs to do this from FIRST Dashboard
  • Bring your team members (make sure you know how everyone is getting to the tournament)
  • Make sure that whomever is managing your pit space has the cell phone number of the coach or someone else that can reach your team late in the tournament day.  (See Notes at bottom)
  • Bring money to buy food and tournament souvenirs. The Tournament Director will let you know what to expect on this front.
  • Your team may need to bring the non-attached mission models for practice tables.  Your team may be asked to provide an adult volunteer.  The Tournament Director will let you know what to expect on this front.
  • Bring a great attitude and enthusiasm – it is a long day and many things can go wrong. The team members’ outlook is typically related to the outlook of the adults around them: parents, mentors and coaches. FIRST LEGO League is about the season – the journey. Going to a tournament is a great achievement – don’t diminish the achievements of the team due to just one day (good or bad)!

OPTIONAL ITEMS :

  • We recommend that you create a team Flag  to carry with the team to help with team identification  and  to “announce” your team as it goes to its activities. We will not provide any team signs or identification but we recommend that you create one to help with team identification.
  • We recommend bringing a table cloth or similar to cover the pit table – in our region, the tables are likely to be wood surfaces and prone to splinters
  • Bring a project board that is related to your team’s project/team identity/season overview. This can be displayed in your pit area to highlight your FLL season. This is like a “science fair” project board for your pit table.
  • Bring additional pit decorations that show off your team’s identity and create a song/chant to show off your team’s unique spirit
  • Bring team shirt or costumes or similar to show off your team’s unique spirit and identity
  • Bring team “give aways” to share with other teams –  Please do not bring food-related items or stickers!
  • Please ask the Tournament Director before bringing your team’s challenge table to practice on – some events may have adequate space and others may not.  Some events may ask you to bring as a shared resource.  In those cases, recognize that the mission models that are not attached may end up missing.  We recommend having each team be responsible for bringing those items.
  • Please ask the Tournament Director before bringing anything that needs to be attached to a wall or other surface – this may not be allowed (even with painter’s tape)

NOTES:

Generally all “house rules” must be obeyed – such as no food/drinks in the Gym.
Typically events are open to the public, which means that someone needs to be around your pit area to watch your robot/laptop/whatever when the team is not there / taking a break.
Finally,  do not bring anything expensive and you should label your things with the team number.
