Dear Business and Community Leader,

We would like to invite you to be a sponsor for Playing At Learning’s educational outreach activities, including our successful and impactful Northern California FIRST LEGO League program.  All of the FIRST programs promote an interest in science and technology among K-12 youth with measurable success and impact.  During the 2015-2016 season for Northern California, over 50 FIRST events supported close to 8,000 FIRST participants and engaging over 1,400 volunteers.

FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science & Technology) was the brainchild of the well-known inventor and businessman, Dean Kamen.  FIRST LEGO League presents a complex, real-world themed challenge for students between the ages of 9 to 14, with two challenge activities.  The robot game  leverages the familiar (and accessible) LEGO Mindstorms robotics kit to create an autonomous robot to solve a time-based series of LEGO-based missions related to the annual theme. The project encourages independent and innovative thinking through research and discovery and helps to show young people that they can, indeed, be part of developing real answers to today’s issues. Annual themes have ranged from trash, food safety, aging and more.

Playing At Learning was organized in 2004 to bring successful programs like FIRST to more young people in our community and the FIRST programs are the centerpieces of our mission to prepare local youth to meet tomorrow’s engineering/technology workforce needs.

We need your support to continue these exciting programs that make a real impact.  Your contribution is an investment in the future of the Northern California’s youth and tomorrow’s technology workforce.  Thank you and feel free to reach out if you have any questions or would like to discuss sponsorship options.

Sincerely,
Jill
