To the 48 teams advancing to the Championship- congratulations!

First priority –  Please tell us if the team has decided not to participate in the championship.  Each year we have teams that do decide not to come.  Please just tell us  – I don’t like having to repeatedly call or email you but I will.   Earlier is better.   If the issue is cost, let us know as we have need-based grants to help.

DEADLINE is NOW for the first 4 items. Items 1-4 are most important as they will be in the tournament program  and the program goes out to print earlier than the other items.     DEADLINE for items 5-9 is  Monday, January 11th.    

[updated 1/8  8am]  For those that need more ideas on how items 1 & 4 were used last year, please take a look at last year’s tournament program   [2008 Program PDFs : Book Order (11 x 17)   or  Page Order (8.5 x 11) ]

Here are the items to E-MAIL only  to  teaminfo@playingatlearning.org  – Please include your team number in all correspondence. Please do not copy other playingatlearning.org email addresses.

  • Item 1. Email team photo (in PNG, GIF or JPG)
  • Item 2. Email robot picture (in PNG, GIF or JPG)
  • Item 3. [new as of 12/20] Tell us if the entire team  (as in all team members individually)  is in their first year of FLL (Rookie year) 
  • Item 4. Email as text,  55 words (or less) a team overview including items such as any team sponsors,  your robot’s name (if there is one) and the team’s project title or transportation issue – this information will be published in the tournament program.   If you list team member names, please do not include full names of team members – first name only is fine. 
  • Item 5. Email a one page 8.5″x11″ team slide (preferred powerpoint, PDF also accepted).   Please do not add a background to the slide but instead if you want a background, add it as a image – the background will get removed when I consolidate the entire slide into one deck. Do not add any slideshow animations or effects. Please do not list full names of team members – first name only is fine. Here are some examples written out in PDF format from 2006..
  • Item 6. Submit  Team Profile.
  • Item 7. Email as text, a project title and a short project abstract explaining the specific transportation issue that your team picked for their project – this should be very short (like a sentence or two, max).
  • Item 8. Email an Emcee team intro as text to teaminfo@playingatlearning.org. This would be 1 to 3 fun items about the team as well as any sponsors – please include a note if the team is a rookie team or if not, how many years that the team members have participated in FLL. This information that will be given to the emcee and team announcer.

Note – if you send Powerpoint, Word or other Microsoft Office files, please send only 2003 version of files (we don’t have 2007 installed)

 

Here are the items to physically mail to Playing At Learning   – Please include your team number in all correspondence

  • Item 9. [updated 1/8  9am]:   Send via postal mail (or uploaded on your site that we can download), a MPEG file of a “good” recording of the team’s project presentation  – you are responsible for the sound and video quality.  These will be setup in kiosks for people to view the team’s project presentations throughout the day.   Please do not send us a DVD video – we need a file  (like avi or mp4 or similar) – you can burn the file on a DVD media or CD media.

 

 Finally, please do the following….

  • Item 0. [updated 12/29 9pm]: Pay tournament registration fee  (link now live)
  • Item 10. [updated 12/29 12pm]  Identify an adult volunteer (not the coach) from your team that is available for at least 4 hours of the tournament day and have them sign up for a role via the  Volunteer self-assign link  (link now live)
  • Invite up to 3 VIPs to 1:30-2:30 pm dessert reception in library-  please let us know who is coming!  
  • Submit nominations for the Playing At Learning FLL Outreach, Outstanding Coach/Mentor and Outstanding FLL Volunteer Awards.
